First Team Match Report - Saturday 15th September 2007
MSFL - Edgar German Challenge Cup - Round 1
Ardingly 2 - 1 Ashurst Wood
by Pete Roberts
A rather good performance considering all the pre-match problems of no keeper – injured players – ill players etc. Skipper Mike Sinfield was forced to play in goal and had a good game. The rest of the players responded in their most positive manner and showed great endeavour and fortitude throughout the match. A blend of youth and experience shown through.
After the hesitant opening minutes Ardingly applied themselves to attacking and attacking with quick thrust from all avenues of the pitch – Shep and Dave Will supported by both Andys dominated the first half and should have scored more goals than the one Danny Keith netted. The midfield held by Matt and Danny was a stronghold and the defence with Dave, Neil and Ben marshalled by Matt Wright did not allow any space for Ashurst to attack.
The second half was much the same – many wasted opportunities – Ardingly attacking and should have been four or five goals up. Then a free kick and Matt Wiles slotted into the top left hand post – brilliant goal. More was to follow – attacking and more wasted chances.
As always in these type of games Ashurst scored from a cross and the last ten minutes was a frantic case of hanging on to the victory.
Well done to all – good commitment – good attitude.
