First Team Match Report - Saturday 22nd September 2007

MSFL - Div 2

Ardingly 2 - 1 Burgess Hill Albion

by Pete Roberts

Ardingly were outplayed for long periods in the first half and went a goal down against a very good Burgess Hill Albion  that took the game to the home team. Indeed the opposition should have had more than the one goal advantage in the first half. Ardingly consistently gave the ball away and didn’t appear to be able to put more than two or three passes together. It was grit and team spirit that saw the home team through – which they have in abundance.

Drawing at half time Ardingly started out brightly in the second half and a stunning free kick from matt wiles put the home team ahead. Again, determination and resilience in the Ardingly team was excellent and showed throughout the game. In the latter stages when Burgess Hill threw everybody at the Ardingly defence it was backs against the wall. A couple of outstanding saves from skipper and temporary keeper Mike Sinfield were exceptional

This was a battle to gain the points – our strike forwards were kept quiet and out of the game and Burgess Hill played five in the middle which nullified our tactics.

Well done to you all – you battled and showed great team spirit and determination to battle through.

Managers point

I’ll take the blame for our bad performance – should have made changes earlier in the match. Mike Sinfield gets ten points because, as skipper, he has been outstanding all season on the pitch and in goal. Whatever he does he does with excellence.

Take a bow Mike you earned it
