MSFL - Mowatt Challenge Cup - Round 1

Maresfield 1 - 2 Ardingly

A good battling performance with some nice smooth skills and passing during the game.

The first half took a while for us to settle due to some changes to the team – but we played some good football. Attacking with width down the two flanks and young Dan having a storming game. He was well supported by the midfield of Steve Bird, Joe , Matt Wiles, Andy and especially Dave Williamson who seems to improve week by week.

Again the defence was outstanding with both Mark and Ben handling their strikers……

Maresfield took the lead mid way through the first half with a miss hit corner and the ball ended up in the back of the net without any defender making a tackle??? (at this stage the referee found – after I had told him earlier – that the two match balls were flat).

Ardingly attacked and a brilliant bit of football with Dave and Steve saw Dan head in a nice cross – nice football.

In the second half we handled their attacks well and counter-attacked with good passing and good fitness levels. We maintained a high level of football and were rewarded with a Joe Slade strike from twenty metres.
