First Team Match Report - Saturday 17th November 2007

MSFL - Division 2

Cuckfield Wheatsheaf Utd 2 - 2 Ardingly

by Pete Roberts

Some nice passing and movement in the first half should have seen Ardingly one or two goals to the better but it ended 0-0. We had good shape and going forward was excellent but just couldn’t put the ball in the net. The referee didn’t really handle the game very well and there were some naughty tackles going in.

Dan Keith was booked so we decided to make the change at half time and brought on Matt Wiles…..and we found ourselves 2-1 down in about ten minutes.

A silly diving tackle gave Cuckfield a freekick and then we didn’t clear our lines to present them with an own goal…within minutes Matt Wright scored from about about 50 yards with a powerful shot which dribbled over the line…then nice movement from Cuckfield for their second goal.

We then brought on Ben for Dave Matthews (who was having a quiet game) and moved Mike Sinfield to full back with the room to support Andy….

It looked all over as wave after wave of attacks didn’t bring our equaliser …then another run down the wing from Andy supported by Mike and a nice cross and volley from Dan the man.

Fantastic team performance. Great first half performance in which we should have scored a few goals.

Management comment

YOU guys never seem to surprise me – you battled through at the end to manage a draw – you showed good attitude and some excellent soccer skills.

We must work on two things this week – corners and also when defending clearing our lines.
