First Team Match Report - Saturday 28th March 2008

MSFL - Division 2

East Grinstead Utd II 0 - 3 Ardingly

by Dave Port

Won 3-0. An excellent win. Played in very blustery conditions with intermittent heavy showers. Ardingly played into the wind during the first half and were lucky that the referee had a change of mind over a penalty decision against Toby. After consulting the excellent assistant an indirect free kick was awarded instead. Soon after this a terrific block by the magnificent Dave Williamson prevented a certain goal.
After about half an hour, following good work by Joe Slade, Steve Bird slipped the EG goalie and was brought down for a penalty converted via the diving goalie's hand by Dan Rushman.
Within 10 minutes of the second half a skilful in-swinging corner by Matt Wiles was converted by a free header from Dave Williamson and this was followed by an unstoppable right foot, with minimal back lift, 30 yarder from Dan Rushman. Probably goal of the season.
For the remainder of the match Ardingly, with wind at their backs, dominated but failed to score again. optimistic shooting was probably the greatest failing but in the end it was a comfortable and welcome win. It was good to see the returning wounded coming on as subs towards the end to display their silky skills. Tactical nous displayed by the manager to get everyone match fit for the FINAL.
Toby 7, Ross 6, Mike 7, Ben 6, Steve 6, Andy 7, Dave 8, Matt 6, Joe 8 ( MoM), Dan 8, Birdie 6.
Subs Jon, Matt and Mark.
